× Brussels Must Sees

Brussels is the capital of Belgium, and also the capital of the EU. It is a city both historic and modern. Here are some of the absolute must sees in Brussels and also our favorite parts of the city!

First of all, Brussels’ magnificent Grand Place is truly unforgettable. It’s almost hidden, and it is in complete baroque style, surrounded by gold features and gilded statues. We both loved looking at it at night, as it’s beautifully illuminated. Not far from it, you must search for the Manneken Pis, which is also almost hidden!

Next, I don’t think I even need to mention that a visit to the Atomium, and the Arcade du  Cinquantenaire is a must. These are unmistakably the biggest symbols of Brussels!

× Comic Book Route / Belgian Comic Strip Center

I’m sure, anyone walking through Brussels will notice the amazing murals. While they are mostly inside the Pentagon forming the “Brussels’ Comic Book Route”, it seems that graffiti is truly taken seriously in Brussels, and each mural looks like a work of art.

Since  Belgian comics played such a major role in the comics history, visiting the Belgian Comic Strip Center, seemed like a good idea! The building was designed by Victor Horta in Art Nouveau style, and the exhibit’s special focus is probably Tintin and Spirou!

 

× Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium

I knew I wanted to visit the Magritte museum since day one. The Museum of Fine Arts, is a statuesque building (which is impossible to visit in a single day) that houses the Magritte / Old Masters / Modern / Wiertz / Meunier / Fin-de-Siècle Museums. There are tickets that allow you to combine your visits, so I got to see the Old Masters section as well. It was great strolling through this beautiful museum, and I would also suggest a walk through the Secret Gardens next to the museum!

×  Japanese Tower / Chinese Pavilion

Among the Art Nouveau architecture, the comic strips and the Old Europe vibe, we got lost into Laken, where north of the royal palace stands the Chinese Pavilion and the Japanese Tower. It was a very interesting and refreshing visit (although is was rainy that day, as usual), it actually felt like we were not in Belgium anymore!
